Program Requirements

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Adopt A Cop BJJ is currently reviewing and improving our program to better support participating officers and affiliate academies. The following requirements represent our current program guidelines and will remain in effect until updated policies are announced.

Program requirements, eligibility standards, reimbursement procedures, and participation guidelines are subject to change as the program continues to evolve.

OFFICER ELIGIBILITY

Adopt A Cop BJJ is intended to support sworn, uniformed patrol officers who regularly interact with the public.

At this time, the following positions are not eligible for sponsorship through the program:

  • Military Police

  • Border Patrol

  • Correctional Officers

  • Federal Officers

  • Government Agents

Additional eligibility requirements may apply during the application and verification process.

TRAINING REQUIREMENT

Participation in Adopt A Cop BJJ is attendance-based.

Enrolled officers are required to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on at least eight (8) separate days per month.

Officers may choose when they train throughout the month, allowing flexibility around work schedules, court appearances, family obligations, and other responsibilities.

Because officers are able to complete their required training throughout the entire month, missed training days due to illness, vacation, work obligations, or other circumstances do not reduce the monthly attendance requirement.

INSTAGRAM & TRAINING VERIFICATION

Participating officers are required to maintain an Instagram account while enrolled in the program.

Officers who have department restrictions or privacy concerns may create an account using an alias, provided Adopt A Cop BJJ is able to verify their identity and participation.

To document training attendance, officers must make an Instagram post before, during, or after their training session that:

  • Tags @AdoptACopBJJ

  • Includes the hashtag #AdoptACopBJJ

  • Identifies or tags the participating academy when appropriate

Instagram Story posts do not count toward the required training verification.

These posts help Adopt A Cop BJJ verify participation, highlight the officers and academies involved in the program, create awareness, and demonstrate to donors and supporters how their contributions are being used.

FAILURE TO MEET ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

An officer who fails to complete the required eight training days during a month will receive one warning.

If the officer fails to meet the monthly attendance requirement again after receiving that warning, they may be removed from the program.

Consistent participation is necessary to ensure donated funds and affiliate gym sponsorships are being used by officers who are actively committed to their training.

LENGTH OF SPONSORSHIP

Officers may participate in the sponsorship program for a maximum of eighteen (18) months.

The goal of the program is to help officers progress toward the rank of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt during that time.

Belt promotions are determined solely by the officer's academy and instructors. Adopt A Cop BJJ does not determine or guarantee promotion within the sponsorship period.

If an officer has not earned their blue belt at the end of the eighteen-month sponsorship period, they may continue training at their own expense.

AFFILIATE ACADEMY SPONSORSHIP

Affiliate academies agree to support the mission of Adopt A Cop BJJ by helping provide training opportunities for participating officers.

Under the current program:

  • An affiliate academy agrees to sponsor one (1) eligible officer at no cost through the officer's participation in the program.

  • Additional participating officers may train at the academy at a reduced membership rate of $50 per month.

  • Reduced-rate memberships are paid to the academy by the officer upfront.

  • Officers who meet all applicable program requirements may request reimbursement from Adopt A Cop BJJ.

The upfront-payment structure is intended to encourage accountability and consistent participation in training.

FINDING AN AFFILIATE ACADEMY

Officers interested in participating should first use the affiliate gym directory on our website to determine whether an Adopt A Cop BJJ academy is located in their area.

If an affiliate academy is available, the officer should contact the academy to determine whether its initial sponsored officer position is currently available.

If the academy agrees to sponsor the officer under the program, the officer should contact info@adoptacopbjj.org for enrollment instructions.

NO AFFILIATE GYM IN YOUR AREA?

If there is not currently an Adopt A Cop BJJ affiliate academy in the officer's area, an interested Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy may apply to become part of the program.

The academy owner or authorized manager should complete the application located on the Become an Affiliate Gymsection of our website.

Once the academy has been approved, eligible officers may proceed with the appropriate enrollment process.

REDUCED-RATE OFFICER APPLICATIONS

Officers seeking a reduced-rate membership with reimbursement from Adopt A Cop BJJ may only apply when officer applications are open.

When enrollment is available, interested officers must complete the Officer Application through our website.

Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance or sponsorship. Enrollment is dependent upon eligibility, available funding, participating gyms, and overall program capacity.

Applicants should wait to receive additional instructions from Adopt A Cop BJJ before considering themselves enrolled in the program.

REIMBURSEMENTS

Officers participating under the reimbursed membership option are responsible for paying their membership fee to their academy upfront.

Reimbursement requests must then be submitted through the Officer Reimbursement Request section of our website.

Current reimbursement requirements include:

  • Reimbursement requests must be submitted no later than the last day of the month.

  • Only officers who meet the applicable attendance and participation requirements are eligible for reimbursement.

  • Late reimbursement requests will not be approved for that month.

  • Officers are responsible for ensuring the information submitted with their reimbursement request is accurate.

  • Reimbursements are currently processed through PayPal.

  • Approved reimbursements are issued beginning on the first of each month, subject to verification and processing.

Failure to submit a reimbursement request by the required deadline will result in forfeiture of reimbursement for that month, regardless of training attendance.

PROGRAM ACCOUNTABILITY

Adopt A Cop BJJ is a donation-funded nonprofit organization. Every sponsorship represents support provided by donors, affiliate academies, businesses, and individuals who believe in our mission.

Participating officers are expected to:

  • Train consistently.

  • Follow program requirements.

  • Represent Adopt A Cop BJJ professionally.

  • Respect their affiliate academy and its policies.

  • Submit required information honestly and on time.

  • Help us demonstrate the positive impact of the program.

Our goal is not simply to provide a free or discounted gym membership. Our goal is to help officers develop meaningful, long-term skills through consistent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.

PROGRAM CHANGES

Adopt A Cop BJJ is currently working to improve and expand the program so we can become an even greater resource for both law enforcement officers and our affiliate academies.

As that process continues, these requirements may be modified, replaced, or expanded.
